Carl Jacobi was born 8 June 1791 in Ilmenau, Thuringia. In 184, he joined a military band in Coburg as an oboe player. Before this, he had been a member of the local band in Schleusingen. He was made a member of the chamber orchstra at the Coburg Court in 1818. Soon afterwards, he was appointed as a bassoonist, a chamber virtuoso. In 1828, he became a second conductor of the Coburt Theatre Ocrhestra and in 1830 Municipal Music Director. He died in Coburg in 1852.
During the time he was a court chamber virtuoso,he made many concert tours throughout the Continent and his bassoon playing was very much praised everywhere. He wrote many and viried compositions for his instrument, of which at least some 20 pieces were published.
